Former Anson resident Jerry Hamrick died on February 22, 2010 in the Baylor All Saints Hospice in Ft Worth, TX, after a long illness. Jerry is survived by his daughter, Donna Gail and her husband Ricky Moss and their son Clint of Keller, TX, and his sister, Joyce Wagner of Abilene, TX. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jimmie Hamrick, his son Phil Hamrick, his parents William and Myrl Hamrick and his brother Bill Hamrick.

Born on August 15, 1927 in Brownwood, TX, Jerry served in the 82nd Airborne Division of the U.S. Army at the end of 1945 and afterward attended Daniel Baker College in Brownwood, TX. It was at Daniel Baker that Jerry met Jimmie Nell Nichols, a student from Duncan, OK. Jimmie and Jerry were married on December 2, 1947. After working for a while, Jerry returned to school at Howard Payne College in Brownwood where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Education and later a Masters of Education, graduating in 1952.

During the next several years, daughter Donna and son Phil were born as Jerry progressed through positions of teacher, football coach, principal and finally superintendent of schools, starting in Blanket, then Comanche, Gorman and Anson, TX.

Always involved in community service activities, Jerry was a Sunday school teacher, Scout Master, Vice-President then President of the Lions Club, a member of the Executive Board of West Texas American Heritage Projects, a lifetime member of the Texas State Teachers Association and a lifetime member of the Texas Parent Teachers Association. In addition, he served on numerous other local, state and community organizations.

Moving to Duncan, OK, in the mid 1970s, Jerry became a top agent for Halliburton's Life Insurance of the Southwest. Jerry and Jimmy were members of the First Baptist Church of Duncan. While he remained an unrepentant and loyal Texan, Jerry became a big fan of the Oklahoma Sooners football team.

Services conducted by Brown, Owens and Brumley Funeral Directors of Fort Worth.

Interment will be in the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, TX. Memorial services are pending.
