Son of David Robinson (b:1694 New Haven CT, d: 1780 Durham CT) and Abigail Kirby Robinson (b: 1666 Middletown CT, d: 1694 New Haven CT), husband of Susannah Fenn (b: 1731 Durham CT, d: 1798).

Phineas was the middle of 13 children, 8 boys and 5 girls. At least three of his brothers (Col. Timothy Robinson, Captain Daniel Robinson, and Captain James Robinson) fought in the Revolutionary War against the British.

Phineas married Susannah Fenn in 1754. They had 13 children. When Phineas died in 1784, Susannah had 6 children still in the house between the ages of 5 and 16. The only two boys, Fenn and Asher, were then 12- and 5-years old respectively.
