Born Oct. 20, 1919, in Indianapolis, he was the son of James H. and Effie Jane Brinson.
He worked in the printing department at Indiana University for 20 years. A veteran, he served with General Patton during World War II in the European theater.
A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he was a past bishop and past branch president of Bloomington and Bedford branches.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel (Roberts) Brinson of Bloomington; one daughter, Patricia Kay Doyle of Terre Haute; two sons, James Michael Brinson of Mesa, Ariz., and Barry Bruce Brinson of Framingham, Mass.; his son-in-law, Raymond Doyle of Terre Haute; two daughters-in-law, Mary Brinson of Mesa and Cheryl Brinson of Framingham; 11 grandchildren, Tony and Robert "Buzz" Doyle, Ruth Ann Wright, Rachel Heward, David, Michael, Jonathan, Nathan, Rebekah, Matthew and Liana Brinson; and seven great-grandchildren, Jaren, Dallin and Brendton Heward, Ethan Wright, Stacy Brinson, De Shay Hutchinson and Corey Sandifer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Hurschella May Doyle; and 14 brothers and sisters.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday, June 25, 2001, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 2411 E. 2nd St., Bloomington. Bishop Chris Redmon will officiate. Entombment will be at Valhalla Memory Gardens Mausoleum.
Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Sunday, June 24, 2001, at Deremiah-Frye Mortuary, Greene & Harrell Chapel and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
