Charles L. Askren 82, 835 North Independence Street, Tipton, died at 6:15 a.m. Friday, in Tipton County Memorial Hospital following an illness of several years.
Born June 6, 1893 in Madison County, he was the son of Jesse Franklin and Harriett Alvanettie Nichols Askren.
On December 23, 1914, he was wed to Mary Marie Small, who survives.
Mr. Askren was a retired carpenter. He was a charter member of the Moose Lodge.
Surviving with his wife are three sons, George Askren of Mount Vernon, Kentucky, Don R. Askren of Tipton, and Max A. Askren of Tipton, Iowa; two daughters, Mrs. Marjorie Harding of Oxford, Michigan, and Mrs. Sherry Conway of Tipton; a sister Mrs. Pearl Elbert of Tipton; two brothers, Manley Askren of Chesterfield, and Herman Askren of Indianapolis; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. One son, Charles N. Askren is deceased.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Young Nichols Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Charles L. Askren, 82, 835 N. Independence St., Tipton, who died early Friday morning, will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Young-Nichols Funeral Home.
Rev. Lee Mangold will officiate at the services. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Saturday.
Mr. Askren was a retired carpenter. He died after an illness of several years.
