Lena Mae Burgess, age 87, of Newport, passed away, Thursday, January 31, 2008.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Burgess; parents, Thomas and Oma James; grandson, Tony Bryant; and brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her children, Wanda Hill and husband, Raymond, of Newton, NC, Beatrice Bryant and husband Leon of Newport, Joan Williams of Newport, Billy Burgess and wife Brenda of Newport; brother, Bill James and wife Betty of Memphis; sister, Lona Parker of New Jersey; grandchildren, Pam (Jimmy) Jinks of Newport, Ricky (Debbie) Hill, Angie (Marcus) Dyke, David Hill, Kendra (David) Shropshire and Jonathan Burgess; nine great grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; also several nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to Morristown Hamblen Home Health and Hospice, and her granddaughter Pam Jinks.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, February 2, 2008 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Brother Lynn Henry and Pastor Thomas Huskey officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be, Marcus Dyke, Jimmy Jinks, David Shropshire, Josh Dyke, Matthew Collett and Chuck Evans.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm, Friday, February 1, 2008 at Manes Funeral Home.
