LOVETTE L. HILL, passed away on August 27, 1989 in a local hospital. Born in Granger, Texas March 23, 1907, he was the son of Charles W. Hill and Maude Haynes Hill. He attended high school in Milford, Texas. He then attended one year of Junior College at Tehuacana Hill in Westminster, Texas. He received a B.S. degree from Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisiana, where he played and lettered in football in 1928-1929, baseball 1928-1929 and was Captain of the team 1930. His coaching included Mertens, Texas 1930-1931, Granger, Texas 1931-1935, Mineral Wells, Texas 1935-1937, Leverett's Chapel, 1937-1942. He was a Major in the Troop Carrier Command, U.S. Air Force, 1942-1946. In 1946-1947, Mr. Hill was in the butane business in Jacksboro, Texas, after which he returned to coaching football beginning at Jeff Davis, Houston, 1947-1948, Edison Junior High, 1948-1949 and the University of Houston from 1949-1974, where he was Assistant Football Coach under Clyde Lee, Bill Meeks, and Harold Laird. He was also head baseball coach there from 1950-1974. Mr. Hill was Coach of the Year at the Missouri Valley Conference in 1951, 1953, and 1960. In 1966, he was named District Coach of the Year for District 6. He went to the College World Series in 1953; finals, 1967. In 1975, he was inducted into The American Association of Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame in Washington, D.C. Married to the former Helen Seaman, September 3, 1938, they had three children: Linda Hill, Donna Kent and Lee Hill, and four grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Tuesday from the funeral home. Funeral services, 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 30, 1989, Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. C. Thomas Stephenson officiating. Interment, Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.
