Mr. Russell W. Matthews, 96 of Wynne, passed away Sunday, December 13, 2009 at Wynne Health Care.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Doak Matthews and Patience Weatherred Matthews; brothers, Samuel Doak Matthews, Jr., Moore Matthews, Richard Matthews, Dudley Matthews and sisters, Virginia Morrison, Lucy Baker, Ruby Anderson.


Russell retired as a Chief in the Medical Corps of the U.S. Navy in 1962. He served in World War II and in the Korean War.


He lived in Tennessee after retiring. Later he moved into the Naval Retirement Home in Gulfport, Mississippi, after hurricane Katrina, he moved back to Wynne and resided in Wynne Health Care Center.
