Alvera Ashe Cason, 84, passed away Nov. 28, 2008. She was born in Wesley, Ga., on Dec. 27, 1924, the youngest of seven children. She was raised in Orangedale, Fla., and lived most of her life in Palm Valley, Fla. Alvera had a teaching degree from Florida State University, an honorary doctorate of theology from Zoe University, and was also an ordained minister. She gave lifelong service to God through Christ the Redeemer Church in Ponte Vedra and Calvary International Missions organization.

Survivors include her seven children, Jennifer Doss (Larry), Peggy Christ (Mark), Joyce Mullis (Tom), Sharon Ewing (John), Spencer Cason (Virginia), Wendy Hobaugh (Hank) and Stan Cason (Jacqueline); and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband, Willis Stanford Cason, and her seven siblings.

Visitation will be held today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Quinn-Shalz, a family funeral home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Christ the Redeemer Church. Interment will be held in the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla., on Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alvera Cason's Memorial Fund, in care of Christ the Redeemer Church, 190 South Roscoe Road, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL 32082.
