Ruby Juanita Akers Peyton, 85, formerly of Fayetteville, W.Va., passed away Monday, February 15, 2010, following a short illness.

Born on January 15, 1925, in Charleston, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Robert Hyatte Henson and Ella Gunnoe Henson.

Mrs. Akers-Peyton was a noted W.Va. watercolorist, sculptor, author and past VP of the WV Watercolor Society and a member of the Beckley Art Group. She attended Old Stone Presbyterian Church in Lewisburg, W.Va.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Burke Akers; three brothers, Sylvestus Henson, Robert Henson, and Chad Hanson; and three sisters, Frances Everman, Pauline Robb, and Sylvia Pell.

Survivors include her husband, James F.B. Peyton of Lewisburg; a sister, Vestella Frink; two sons, David Akers and wife, Kandy, of Fayetteville, and Daniel Akers and wife, Susan, of Daniels; and a daughter, Jan Perry of Fayetteville. She had eight grandchildren, Julie Blankenship and husband Shawn, Robert H. Akers and wife Shannon, Daniel R. Akers and wife, Sarah, Kim Parrish and husband Steve, Josh Akers and wife Ann, Erin Akers, Sean Perry and wife Angie, and Scott Perry; and eight great-grandchildren, Clara Blankenship, J.D. Mauritz, Chase Mauritz, Dylan Perry, Dakota Perry, Autumn Akers, Ryan Smith, and Robert Kirkland Akers.

A private family celebration and burial was held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 19, 2010, at Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville, with Rev. Mack Canterbury officiating.
