Edgar Drake, son of William and Mary Drake, was born in Knox County, Ohio, near Mt. Vernon on October 5, 1868 and passed away at the Community Hospital in Onaga, Kansas, about 2:00 a. m., Thursday, April 12, 1962 at the age of 93 years six months and seven days, after being in the hospital about eleven days. Mrs. Drake came to Pottawatomie County, Kansas, when he was five years old and had lived there the rest of his life. Most of this time was spent on the same farm in the Laclede Community.
He was united in marriage to Jennie Maud Klingensmith on January 4, 1893, who preceded him in death on October 10, 1943. To this union were born four children. One daughter, Mrs. Pearl Ault, preceded him in death February 1, 1957.
Mr. Drake was a member of the Laclede Baptist church and had been a member of the Woodmen and the Odd Fellow lodges.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Helen Ault of Belvue, Kansas, and Mrs. Lois Knipp of Wamego, Kansas; one son, Malcolm Drake of Wamego; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, other relatives and a great host of friends. One grandson, Charles Robert Drake, preceded him in death.
Mr. Drake was well respected by all who knew him. One of his nieces was heard to say that he was one of the kindest men that she ever knew.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 14, at 11:00 a. m., at the Stewart Funeral Chapel in Wamego and were conducted by the Rev. S. E. Bruce. Interment was in the Wamego cemetery.
