The 1900 Census lists John B. Vaught (born April 1853) living in the Caney Fork precinct, Pulaski County, Kentucky. Five of his children are also listed in the household. They are Rosa L. (born October 1880), Charles O. (born July 1883), Elizzie (born May 1886), Jennie (born September 1890), and Willie B. (born December 1895). The Pulaski County Cemetery Records list his date of birth as April 22, 1853 and his date of death as October 5, 1922.

His obituary lists his date of birth as April 22, 1853, his date of death as October 4, 1922, and the date of his funeral as October 5, 1922.

"John Brent Vaught, son of Andrew J. and Fannie E. Vaught, was born in Pulaski County, Kentucky, April 22, 1853, and passed away October 4, 1922, being at that time 69 years, 5 months, and 13 days of age.

Mr. Vaught's grandfather came from Virginia in 1812 and located on the Henry Gilmore farm and later his father bought the old home on the Crab Orchard pike at this place, Uncle John as he was known to all, lived the greater part of his life. On February 23rd paralysis deprived him the use of his left side and on August 15th he had another stroke making him a complete invalid.

In 1878 John Brent Vaught was married to Harriet S. Newby who preceded him to the grave in 1896. To this union six children were born, five of whom are still living, the other passing away in infancy. Those left to mourn his death are Mrs. Rosa Sowder of Benson, Minn., Chas. O. Vaught of Somerset, Ky., Mrs. Fannie Hughes of Moville, Iowa, Mrs Jeanne Whitaker of Somerset, Kentucky, Brent Vaught of Bainbridge, Ind., and one brother, Scott M. Vaught of Mackay, Idaho.

He united with the Christian church at Union in early manhood and later took a stand with what is known as the Church of Christ, remaining faithful unto the end. Funeral services were held at Union Thursday, October 5th, conducted by Bros. Albert Reid and Abner Hughes.

Though to us all tears of sorrow must fall, the eye of our Father is over us all, and we reach through the mist for the clasp of his hand. Contributed."
