The Wellington Leader August 4, 1966

Graveside rites for Richard Reneau, 20, of Phillips will be held at North Wellington Cemetery Thursday, August 4, 1966 at 3 p.m. The Rev. Amos Meador, pastor of the Church of the Nazarene in Borger will officiate. Mr. Reneau was the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Reneau of Phillips. He was a graduate of Phillips High School and would have been a junior at West Texas State University this year. The young man plunged to his death about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday when rigging broke while he was working on a tank near the Phillips Petroleum Refinery and NGL Processing Center. He was employed this summer by Nelson Painting Service of Oklahoma City, which is working on storage tanks at the Phillips Plant. A linebacker on the West Texas State University Buffaloes, Reneau played a lot as a sophomore and was due to have played even more this year. Coach Joe Kerbel considered him likely the No. 1 middle linebacker by the time he became a senior. Survivors are his parents, two brothers, Danny Reneau and Billy Reneau of Philips, and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. W. T. Ferell of Philips.
