, 87 of Pittsburg died at 2:02 p.m. Friday September 7, 2007 at the Cornerstone Village Nursing Facility in Pittsburg.

He was born August 10, 1920 in Sedalia, MO the son of Carl and Ethel (Wisdom) Wood.

He and his family moved to Pittsburg, Lonzo attended schools in Pittsburg and was a graduate of Pittsburg High School.

Lonzo served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army in the 63rd Infantry in Africa from 1940 until 1943.

He married Vera Mullikin on March 25, 1944 in Girard, KS. She survives of the home.

They lived most of their married life in the Frontenac/Pittsburg area.

Lonzo was an insurance agent for State Farm Insurance Company for 31 years retiring in January of 1984. During his career Lonzo won numerous awards as top salesman and won several trips.

He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church of Pittsburg. A member of the Frontenac American Legion for 65 years, past exalted ruler of Pittsburg Elks Lodge and honorary life member, a 60 year member of the Eastern Star Chapter 369 in Garland, KS, the Mirza Shriners of Pittsburg, life member of Scottish Rite of free masonry, Grand Lodge A.F. & A.M. of Kansas, member of the Optimist Club and Pittsburg Rotary Club. He also coached little league baseball teams.

Survivors include his wife Vera of the home; a son Jim Wood of Pittsburg, a daughter Irene Arnold of Pittsburg; three brothers George Wood of Pittsburg, Joe Wood of Texas, James Wood of Carl Junction, MO; three sisters Evelyn McClellan of Mt. Grove, MO, Juanita Roberts of Ava, MO, Ethel Steward of Texas; numerous grandchildren and numerous Great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son David Wood, brothers Dean, Carl, Lee, Harold and Quincy Wood and Sisters Alice Stone and Alpha Mae Bolinger.

Memorial services will be 10:30 AM, Monday September 10th at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg with Reverend Kevin Arensman officiating.

The family will receive friends following the services.

The Frontenac American Legion will provide flag presentation ceremonies at the memorial service.

Inurnment will be at a later date in the Garden of Memories Cemetery.

The family suggests expression of sympathy be in the form of memorials to the Arthritis Foundation.

PITTSBURG — Vera Wood, 92 of Pittsburg, KS formerly of Frontenac died at 4:50 p.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at the Cornerstone Village in Pittsburg.

She was born November 18, 1917 in rural Frontenac the daughter of William and Lois (Allison) Mullikin.

She attended area schools and graduated from the Frontenac High School with the Class of 1935.

On March 25, 1944 she was united in marriage to Lonzo Wood in Girard, KS; he preceded her in death on September 7, 2007.

Vera was a homemaker and occasionally helped her husband in the State Farm office. She was a longtime member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Pittsburg. She was an avid golfer and former member and past president of the Countryside Country Club Golf Association. She was also a member of the Frontenac American Legion Auxiliary and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star #369 Garland, KS Chapter. She also was an avid bowler.

Survivors include a daughter Irene Arnold and husband Noel of Pittsburg; a son James "Jim" Wood of Pittsburg; two nephews Lynn Stewart of OH and Allen Stewart of Broken Arrow, OK; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son and daughter-in-law David and Martha Wood.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, February 27, 2010 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg with Pastor Don Foster officiating.

Burial will be at a later date.

Family will receive friends immediately following the services.
