She was born November 23, 1947 in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. She was a 1965 graduate of Elyria High School and had lived in Birmingham for 13 years, before moving to South Amherst, where she has been a resident for the past 6 1/2 years.
She was formerly employed at the former Actmedia Demo Company, Elyria and had also worked as a waitress for Kim's, Farmerboy, L & K and Friendly's Restaurants. Joyce attended Heritage Presbyterian Church in Amherst and had also been a volunteer with Cub Scouts and youth sports programs.
She was a generous person who enjoyed reading, fishing, cooking Hungarian food, and during the early 1970's, she and her husband won several local dance contests.
Joyce is survived by her husband of 44 years, Antone L. Suta; sons Vance of South Amherst; Tony of Hampton, VA and daughter Lisa Suta of Elyria; grandchildren Sammy Streets, Toni Ann Suta, Jordan Lee Sand and Jeremiah Suta; mother, Phyllis Gales of Elyria; brothers Terry Gales of Vero Beach, FL, Scott Gales of Westerville, OH, Tracy Gales of Glenside, PA and Todd Gales of Elyria. Also surviving are sister-in-laws Mary (Tibor) Suta of Amherst; Ilona (Robert) Menner of N. Ridgeville and Judy Goodrich of Smithfield, WV and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by daughter Vicki Lynn Suta in 1968; brother Troy Gales in 1962 and Father George Gales in 2004.
Visitation will be Wednesday, February 24, 2010 from noon to 2 p.m. and from 4 p.m. until the time of a 6 p.m. funeral service at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria. Reverend James Smucker, Pastor of Heritage Presbyterian Church, Amherst, will officiate. A reception will follow at 7 p.m. at the home of Todd Gales, 237 Kansas Ave., Elyria. Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery and memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
