Aunt Julia worked at the King mill in Augusta as a spooler. She lived on Milledgeville Road in Augusta for many years, next to our grandparents, then Uncle Allen built a new house on Wise Drive. They had several houses he owned and rented out. Aunt Julia used to say, "of all the houses they owned, she lived in the worst one." Thus, the new one. Upon seeing the new house in progress, and expecting something more grand from all the talk, I made the remark that it was "just a common everyday old house", which she never forgot, or forgave me for. Whenever she would see me, she would say "Now, you come to see me, in my common everyday old house".

Aunt Julia ( Julia Elizabeth Melissa Epps Darnell) was 90 years old when she died in Commerce Georgia on Oct. 16, 2002. Services were held at Ivie Chapel, Vivian Darnell officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park, Augusta. She was the daughter of the late Cora Lee Cowart Epps and the late Walter Lee Epps. She was of the baptist faith. She was also preceded in death by her husband Allen Darnell. She was survived by one son, Aubrey Darnell, Commerce; grandchildren, Michael D. Darnell Commerce, Marilyn Strand Crescent City, Calif., and Michelle Darnell, Dahlonega; sisters, Jessie Matteson, Hinesville and Thelma Sizemore, Appling; seven great grandchildren and one great great grandchildren. Ivie Funeral Home.
