Graveside service for retired Sgt. 1st Class John J. Ferren, 84, Lawton, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Post Cemetery, Fort Sill.

Mr. Ferren died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010, in Lawton.

Arrangements are under direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.

John was born Dec. 2, 1925, in Cottage Grove, Ore., to Walter and Ruth Ferren. He grew up in Cottage Grove, where he attended school. He joined the United States Army and served in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. He served his country for 22 years before retiring on June 30, 1974. He married Maxine McDade on Feb. 26, 1962, in Lawton, where they made their home. He was a member of First Baptist East.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine, of the home; one son, Larry Campbell, Lawton; two daughters: Paula Shively, Lawton; and Beth Shapiro, Colorado Springs, Colo.; four grandsons and their wives: Jeremy and Amy Shively, Chattanooga; Jared Shively, Georgetown, Ky.; Timothy and Cissilee Shapiro, Colorado Springs; and Jonathan Shapiro, Fort Leavenworth, Kan.; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Walter Ferren; and his sister, Violet Ferren.
