Son of Alice Fisher Kempen.
He is survived by two daughters, Margaret Nordt and Katherine Faust. He's also survived by 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

William served as a First Lieutenant, Company B, 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division, U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He resided in Wilmington, Delaware prior to the war.

William was "Killed in Action" while fighting the enemy in North Korea.

His remains were recovered on November 3, 2003 and identified on January 7, 2005. He was interred here in the Arlington, National Cemetery.

First Lieutenant Kempen was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
