BIGGS Harold (Hal) Stevens Biggs age 78, passed away Sunday, February 21, 2010 at his home. He was a loving husband, father and was dearly loved by all of his family and friends. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him. A resident of Mobile, Hal was born in Peterman, Alabama. As a young man, he was a keen athlete, playing football, baseball and basketball. Throughout the 1950's and 60's, he played semi-pro basketball, fast-pitch softball, and baseball, fielded regularly by the great Weinacker teams. His athletic ability was recognized by his induction into Mobile's Softball Hall of Fame, the Alabama Blue-Gray Hall of Fame, and the Galvez Hall of Fame. He was voted Referee of the Year in 1971, highlighting a decade of officiating at high school basketball games. He also loved the outdoors, and his and his brother Robert's stories of hunting and fishing adventures are legendary among family and friends. In 1950, he was called to military service and served 2 years in the U.S. Army with the 31st Dixie Division. After discharge, Hal worked at Brookley Field until its closure in the late 60s. He then spent 5 years with Alfa Insurance as an agent. After moving from Alfa, he worked 23 years as a heavy equipment salesman, retiring from Beard Equipment Company in 1993. After retirement -- ever the athlete -- he took up golf, playing with the Spring Hill Senior Golf Association, shooting his age several times. He was preceded in death by his father Charles Harold, mother Sara Stevens Biggs, and brother Charles Robert Biggs. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Rebecca, two daughters, Angela (Dale) DeBry, and Diana Lynn (Frank) Wendt, sister Carol (Tex) Hadley, sister in law, Sherry Biggs, granddaughter, Carrie (Isaac) McCartney, two great grandsons, Devin and Gage, 2 nephews Randy and Andy, great nephews Brannon and Tyler, other dear relatives, and many wonderful friends. Special thanks to Dr. Burnham, Dr. Bodet, Lynn Lewis and all of the nurses at the Heart Failure Clinic, Debra McNickle and all the staff at Critical Care for their loving care. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home on Thursday, February 25, 2010 at 12Noon. Visitation will be 5PM to 8PM Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Interment will be in Serenity Memorial Gardens. Funeral arrangements by Serenity Funeral Home, Old Pascagoula Rd., Theodore, AL
