Kornelius was born in Neu-Schoensee, Sagradovka, the son of Heinrich J. Janzen (1885-1933) and Katharina von Bergen (1888-1924). He married Maria Driediger on 11 Feb 1941 in Nikolaifeld, Sagradovka. She was born on 15 Mar 1919 in Nikolaifeld, the daughter of Jakob J. Driediger (1875-1938) and Elisabeth Regier (1883-1947). They had 2 children: Heinrich (1941-2021) and Maria (1945-1946). In 1943 (Oct) they fled to Poland, where Kornelius was drafted into the German army. Sadly, he died just a few weeks before it ended. In 1945, Maria was returned to Russia with her mother and sisters, and ended up in a forestry labour camp in Uchastok, Vologda. She was forced to work hard felling large trees like a lumberjack. The people were starving, and she also lost her baby daughter Mariechen. One exhausing day, she literally sat down at the foot of a large tree, and quietly passed away. The Russian foreman came to whip her back to work before he finally realized that she was dead. He little son Heinrich (4) was then left in an orphanage, until he was later found by his mother's sister. He and his family later came to Germany in 1993, where he died in Berlin.
