Raymond Franklin Craig, 87, of Route 3, Staunton, died early Monday morning (March 12, 1984) at his home following a lengthy illness.
He was born Dec. 20 1896 in Mt. Sidney, a son of George and Virginia (Price) Craig. He was a member of Barren Ridge Church of the Brethren.
Mr. Craig was a farmer and carpenter and had worked for the Augusta Co. Highway Dept. and the Virginia Dept. of Highways. He later was employed by Wayne Manufacturing Co. and the Celanese Corp. and was last employed by Brock & Davis Construction Co. until retirement in 1965.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Florence Pearl (James) Craig; four sons, Stanley M. Craig of Waynesboro, Preston C. Craig of Staunton, Raymond F. Craig, Jr. of Verona and Nelson E. Craig of Waynesboro; four daughters, Mrs. Carl (Hazel) Shifflett of Waynesboro, Mrs. Harry (Margaret) Hunter, Mrs. William L. (Doris) Parrish and Mrs. Harry (Peggy) Snyder, all of Staunton; two brothers, Hensel Craig of Grottoes and George Craig of Mt. Crawford; one sister, Miss Helen Craig of New Market; also eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
A service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Barren Ridge Church of the Brethren conducted by the Rev. Harold E. Skelton and the Rev. Randall V. Simmons. Burial will be in Thornrose Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Garry Parrish, Billy Parrish, Jimmy Craig, Jerry Craig, Maxwell Craig and Harold Furr.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Gilbert, J. William Sites, Warren H. Williams Jr., S. M. Quick Jr., John Dunn, Paul J. Wright Jr., Dr. Thomas L. Gorsuch, Dr. Gary Murray, George Taylor, Henry J. Quick, Houston H. Conner, Orville A. Jacobs, Fred W. Harmon, John R. Meyerhoeffer and Lawrence Chaplin.
The family will receive friends at the Hamrick Funeral Home this evening from 7 until 8 o'clock and at other times at the residence on Route 3. PdOb
