Stanley Lee Wiley died Monday, February 22, 2010 at the family home in Bayfield, Colo. He was 78. Mr. Wiley was born to Robert Lee and Leora Kay Ormiston Wiley on August 16, 1931, in Kirkwell, Colo. He married Lillian Ice Wiley on May 19, 1953. To this union came three children. He went into the Army in September 1953, and received an honorable discharge in September 1955. He worked in the Assessor's office in Springfield, Colo., for seven years. He ranched and farmed. He moved to Bayfield in 1966, and later helped build the Camino Del Rio bypass. Durango residents remember him as a pump man at Kroegers and an appliance repair man for Sears. He also worked as a silversmith for Lottie Shipley. In 1973 he started Wiley Pump Service and worked there until his death. He was a member of the Pritchett Roping Club and the Spring Creek Grange. An avid western and square dancer, he was president of the Whirl-a-Way Square Dance Club for many years. He enjoyed his livestock, horses, cows, ducks, and watching the deer in the yard. In his later years his biggest pleasure was to take everyone to the lake. He enjoyed pulling everyone around the lake on water skis and tubes. He spent many happy hours driving the boat and fishing. Mr. Wiley was always ready to lend a helping hand when asked. His smiling face will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Mr. Wiley was preceded in death by his son Kelly Joe Wiley; father and mother, Robert and Leora Wiley; brothers Charlie and Bill Wiley and sister Sylvia Stevenson. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lillian Wiley of Bayfield; daughter and son-in-law Elaine and Bruce Monger of Bayfield; son and daughter-in-law Larry and Evette Wiley of Ignacio; two grandsons, two granddaughters, six great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, February 26, 2010, at Pine Valley Church of the Foursquare Gospel, with the Reverend Dan Straw officiating. Burial will follow at Pine River Cemetery.
