Confederate Veteran of the Civil War
Miles Joseph Estes, 94, a resident of southern Oregon for the past 31 years, passed away after a brief illness at the home of his son, Rankin Estes on Kings highway early Wednesday.
Mr. Estes was born in Chambers county, Alabama, May 14, 1846. He spent most of his early life in Alabama and Texas, and enlisted in the Civil war at Coosa, Alabama, in March 1862 serving three years with company "H', 13th Alabama infantry. He was wounded in the battle of Petersburg, Virginia, and was mustered out of the service in April, 1865.
Mr. Estes was an honorary member of
Colonel Sargent Camp Spanish-American War Veterans.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. R. H. Harrison of Chicago, Illinois and Mrs. J. F. Watson of Medford, two sons, F. J. Estes of Belton, Texas, and Rankin Estes, of Medford, 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grand children and one great-great grandchild.
