Dodgeville – Frank O. Hess Jr., age 76, of Dodgeville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 23, 2010, at the HospiceCare Center in Fitchburg, WI. He was born on November 30, 1933 to Frank and Florence (Medenwaldt) Hess in Laona, WI. He graduated from Baraboo High School in 1951 and from UW Platteville in 1955. After graduation he moved to Dodgeville where he took a teaching job at the high school, this is where he met the love of his life Janet Pittz. They were united in marriage on June 2, 1956 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Frank and Janet moved to Sparta for another teaching opportunity but returned to Dodgeville when Frank opened his own business. Frank believed strongly in serving his country and community. He was a veteran of the army serving during the Berlin Conflict for the 32nd ‘Red Arrow' Infantry Division. He was a member of the Dodgeville Fire Department from 1969 to 1994, serving as chief from 1987 to 1990. He was chamber of commerce member, alderman and served as Mayor from 1982 to 1986. Most recently he was maintaining the Dodgeville City Pool.

Frank is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janet (Pittz) Hess, of Dodgeville; his 5 children, Gerianne (Curt) Fellows, of Dodgeville, Jody (Doug) Evans, of Dodgeville, Kristen Quick, of Wisconsin Rapids, Mark (Christine) Hess, of Dodgeville, Jean (Steve) Hilton, of South Elgin, IL; his son-in-law, Jason Cullen, of Dodgeville; his 13 angels, Mark and Taryn Fellows, Jessa and Nathan Quick, Jake and Sarah Spaulding, Justine, Lindsay and Emily Hess, Haydn and Elise Hilton, Danni Hess and Jackson Cullen; his brothers, Bob (Phyllis) Hess and Dick (Mary Ellen) Hess; his sister, Delores Triest; his sisters-in-law, Carol (Dennis) Hessner, Myrna (Paul) Thuli, and Mary (Robert) Kratochwill; as well as other dear friends and relatives.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Florence, 2 daughters, Kay Lynn Hess and Sandy (Hess) Cullen, his son-in-law, Andy Quick and his father and mother-in-law, Harold and Dorothy Pittz.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 26, 2010 at ST. JOSEPH'S CATHOLIC CHURCH in Dodgeville. Fr. Patrick Wendler will officiate. Burial will be held in St. Joseph's Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites accorded by the Dodgeville American Legion. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday and from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Friday at the GORGEN-McGINLEY & AYERS FUNERAL HOME in Dodgeville.
