Ryan "Johnny Strange" Melton, passed away Feb. 21, 2010, in Lubbock, Texas. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, at First Christian Church Chapel, 2323 Broadway, Lubbock. Pastor Michael Passmore will perform the service. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park, 5740 19th Street, Lubbock.

Ryan was born in Plainview, Texas, to Gary and Diane Melton, and lived there until 1984 when he moved to Lubbock. He graduated from Coronado High School and attended South Plains College where he majored in theatre. He then moved to San Francisco and attended (ACT) American Conservatory Acting Training. Ryan started his radio career in Lubbock as a morning show personality "Cruz". He furthered his career by moving to Waco and doing two morning shows as "Johnny Strange", and was also Program Director. While continuing his radio career, he was accepted by Acclaim Acting Agency where he had the opportunity to act in three major motion movies, including "A Tree Of Life" coming out in 2010, starring Sean Penn and Brad Pitt, "A Scanner Darkly" starring Keanu Reeves, and "Idiocracy" starring Luke Wilson. Ryan also wrote two books, one book of poetry, two screen plays, one of which he starred in and directed a trailer. He was a member of the Screen Actors Guild Association.

Recently, he decided to move back to Lubbock to be closer to family and friends to continue his writing career. Most importantly he touched the lives of others through his talents, courage and strength, determination, belief and faith, and a sprit beyond any person you will ever know. He touched lives up until the moment God called him home.

Survivors include mother and stepfather, Dianne and Steve Breaud, of Lubbock; father, Gary Melton, of Lubbock; brother, Rob Melton and wife, Angie; and nephews, Kaeden and Karsen Melton, of Overland Park, Kan.
