A funeral for former Willamina resident Frances Virginia Cagle of Salem was held this morning in Buck Hollow Cemetery, Willamina. Mrs. Cagle died May 21, 2003, in Elmira, from cardiac-related causes. She was 53. She was born Sept. 27, 1949, in Portland. She was raised in Mill City and graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in Salem. She attended college in Spain for two years, then attended and graduated from the University of California , Los Angeles. She married Bruce Bigelow. After marrying Mr. Bigelow, she lived in Willamina and was a volunteer city librarian, Cub Scouts den mother and an OSU master gardener. She attended Chemeketa Community College in 1990 and graduated with honors in manufacturing engineering technology and drafting. She and David Cagle were married March 21, 1995. Mrs. Cagle had lived in Salem since 1997. She worked as a machinist at Zephyr Engineering, Salem. Survivors include her husband; her parents, Delbert Barker Sr. and Lois Barker, both of Tillamook; five daughters, Melissa Bigelow, Charlene Merritt and Iris Bigelow, all of Salem, and Paula Somers and Lesley Abraham, both of Okanogan, Wash.; two sons, Nate Showers of Salem and Stephan Cagle of Okanogan; two brothers, Lee Olmsted of Eugene and Delbert Barker Jr.; and a sister, Linda Horner of Cottage Grove. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Catherine Bigelow, and a grandson, Layne Johnson. Arrangements were under the direction of Adamson's Sheridan Funeral Home. (Obit. provided by Sheri West)
