Kelly was born in Slemp, Ky., on March 13, 1926, to Willie and Judy Couch. He moved to Rochester after serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. He served in the Reserves and served active duty during the Korean Conflict, from Dec. 13, 1951, to Dec. 12, 1953. He married Lois Woltman in 1958. Together they raised five children.
Kelly worked in construction for Doyle Connor for many years. He worked in the service industry for Rochester Methodist Hospital and later for Arnold's Supply. Following his divorce, he married Joyce Butturff in 1980. Even though they divorced after 20 years, they remained lifelong companions.
Kelly enjoyed fishing and hunting, and buying, selling or trading all things, especially cars. He also enjoyed telling a good joke or story.
Kelly is survived by his children, Stella (James) Williams of Pineville, Ky., Michael Hartman of Portland, Ore., Cindy Woltman of Eyota, Sheila (John) Mix of Eyota, Steven Couch of Pineville, Ky., John (Cindee) Couch of Rochester, Shari Couch of Chatfield and Curt Butturff of Rochester; his siblings, Bessie Blair, Verlin Couch, Verne Kirkpatrick, Ruth Helton, and Willie Couch Jr.; eight grandchildren, James (Laura) Williams, Brian (Chelsa) Mix, Joanie Mix, Joseph Couch, Danielle Fields, Michael Woltman, Joshua Couch and Julia Couch; and four great-grandchildren, Aynslea Kern, Tyler Mix, Christopher Williams and Alex Williams. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
The funeral service will be Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010, at 1 p.m. at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes' Chapel. Visitation will be on Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes, and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pleasant Prairie Cemetery.
