Virginia Holub, of Wilmington, passed away Sunday, February 21, 2010 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Kansas City, KS, March 4, 1922 the daughter of the late David Lee Roberts and Queen Isabelle Burris Roberts. Mrs. Roberts died when Virginia was just 7 years old and so her loving Father with the help of her 3 older sisters and 2 brothers reared her. She was married to Neal Holub on January 17, 1948 and he preceded her in death. She is now with Neal, her everlasting love, which brings peace to her family and friends.
Virginia worked as a Rivet girl in World War II, working on B 25 Bombers in Kansas City, MO. She graduated from Kearney State Teaching College and taught Home Economics in Elm Creek High School, served as Home Economist for Buffalo County Extension, and served as a Judge at the Buffalo County Fair. She later worked as a realtor for Lowe/Rusmissel Realtors in Kearney, NE and wrote numerous columns for the local paper.
She was an outstanding bridge player, loved to golf, and ride horses. She was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker football fan and a member of the Kearney Church of Christ and the Pine Valley Church of Christ.
Virginia was always known for being able to light up a room with her smile and loving spirit. She would say that she had a direct line to Heaven and so had to go to bed early at night so she could pray for everyone.
She is survived by her son Dr. Gregory Holub and his wife Kathy Fyfe Holub.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 25, 2010 from 10 to 11 AM followed by her funeral service at 11 AM at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel.
Interment will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Mariner Health for all their love and support while she was a resident.
