Mr. Chavis was born in Orangeburg County, a son of the late William 'Bo' and Joyce Rice Chavis. He was formerly employed by Calhoun Gin Company. He was a member of North Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include his wife, Gussie Jackson Chavis of the home; two brothers, Ricky Chavis and Mickey Chavis, both of North; three sisters, Barbara Rutland of Orangeburg, Peggy Graham and Cathy Fulmer, both of Lexington; a brother-in-law, Bubba Jackson of the home; and a number of nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m, Sunday, Dec. 17, at Culler-McAlhany Funeral Home in North and other times at the home, 1307 Dr. Boyleston Road, Salley.
