Simplicity Marks Lansing Funeral

Hundreds of All Ranks Pay Last Respects to Albany Philanthropist.

Utmost simplicity, which marked the life of John Townsend Lansing, who died Tuesday in Digby, Nova Scotia, marked the funeral services which took place yesterday afternoon at the Madison Avenue Reformed Church. Private services at the Lansing home, 108 Washington Avenue, preceded the public services in the church. The Rev. Dr. J. Addison Jones, pastor of the church, conducted the services both at the home and the church.

Business, the professions, philanthropic and charitable activities - all were represented at the funeral. Rich and poor alike filled the church to pay their last respects to a man whose work had made him beloved by all. Scores who had left Albany for their vacations returned yesterday that they might be present at the last rites. The church was filled to the doors.

The services at the church were opened with an organ selection by William L. Widener, the church organist who played the "Adoration", from Gaul's "Holy City" and "I Know That My Redeemer Liveth" from Handel's "Messiah". No eulogy was delivered, only the simple ritual service of the Reformed Church marked the service. A quartet unaccompanied, sang three hymns.

The body was buried in the family plot in Rural Cemetery.
