AIRY - Dora Pearcy Airy, daughter of Madison Pearcy and Matilda (Worley) Pearcy, was born April 6, 1885 on a farm in Union Township, Lucas County, Ia. She passed away at the Lucas County Memorial Hospital, November 11, 1969. She was 84 years of age.
She had always lived in Lucas County. She united with the Disciples of Christ Church at Last Chance in 1894, where she retained her membership until her passing. In Sept., 1969 she attended the dedication of the new building at Last Chance. She had attended the dedication of the previous building in Sept., 1894.
On March 15, 1906 she was united in marriage to Delbert B. Airy at Derby, and to this union seven children were born.
Dell and Dora moved to her father's farm near Last Chance October 20, 1907. This was their home for the next forty-four years. In this community they provided for the spiritual, physical and educational growth and development of their children. The children will always be thankful for the training they received in this home.
In 1951, Mr. and Mrs. Airy retired from their farm and moved to Chariton. Mr. Airy died in July, 1958 and Mrs. Airy continued to live in their Chariton home. In 1967, Mrs. Airy sold the farm to which they had moved sixty years before.
Mrs. Airy's happiest hours were when she was with her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert, daughter, Iola, son Bert, father, mother, brothers Arthur, Iradell Roy, Grover and George Pearcy.
Surviving are her sister, Mrs. Viola Lugar, Chariton, her daughter Mildred of Centerville and Chariton, sons Loren Lloyd and James Eldon of Marion, John Madison of Des Moines, and Raymond Paul of Blairsville; ten grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Services were conducted by the Rev. Eldon Jandebeur at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, 1969 at the Chariton Christian Church. Interment was in Last Chance Cemetery. Beardsley-Fielding Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
