Treasure Island
BRODY, DR. VIOLA A., 95, of Treasure Island, died Monday (Aug. 11, 2003) in the hospice unit of Palms of Pasadena Hospital. Born in St. Joseph, Mich., she moved to this area in 1970 from Chicago.
She was a child psychologist. She received a bachelor of art degree in fine arts at Michigan State University, a master's degree in music education at the University of Rochester and a doctorate in education at the University of Michigan.
She was a public school teacher in Michigan for 22 years. She was instrumental in the training of the adults who began Head Start in Chicago. In 1970 she was the chief psychologist of the Child Guidance Clinic in St. Petersburg and an adjunct professor at the University of South Florida. She was the creator of Developmental Play therapy. She wrote The Dialogue of Touch. On Aug. 5, the city of Treasure Island made a proclamation naming it Viola A. Brody Day.
Survivors include two sisters, Marjorie Michael and Carol Brody; and a brother, Clark Brody. Beach Memorial Chapel, St. Pete Beach.
