"MEETS WITH FATAL ACCIDENT"

"William A. Manuel, a well known young man of this city, suffered a fatal accident on Saturday afternoon shortly after 4:30 o'clock when a motorcycle driven by himself ran into an electric light pole, the contact tearing away the right side of his face and severing an artery leading to the brain which caused his death to occur Sunday morning at 1 o'clock. Mr. Manuel was employed at the Coast Shipyard and after having left his work on Saturday afternoon he was on his way home driving at a rate of speed said by those who witnessed the accident to be not more than thirty miles an hour. When reaching a point on East Howard avenue just opposite the Charity hospital at which there is a curve in the road, the wheel became unmanageable and was seen to head towards a wooden fence. Mr. Manuel regained control of the machine and in an instant it headed for a pole into which his body was thrown, his head receiving the worst of the blow. The injured man was picked up by friends who rushed him to a local sanitorium where everything possible was done to same his life but which was of no avail and he died Sunday morning. The motorcycle upon which he was riding was badly damaged, the front fork being broken causing the front wheel to become separated from the other part of the machine. Deceased was 21 years of age, a native of Jackson county and had been a resident of Biloxi for 20 years. He is survived by a wife and young baby, besides other relatives. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World and Carpenters Union. Friends of the family were grieved to learn of the sad accident which caused Mr. Manuel's death. The funeral was held this afternoon at 4 o'clock from the late residence of the deceased, 1523 First street. Services being held in St. Michael's church, Rev. Father Nelius Downing officiating. Interment was made in the Biloxi cemetery."
