William David Adams was born November 6, 1886 to Joseph Adams and Margaret Mahala Ropp-Adams. William better known as W.D.was born on a farm in Saratoga,Iowa.He was raised and educated in the Saratoga area. He was converted to the United Bethren Church. And at the age of 21 he was ordained a minister.
On December 31,1987,W.D. married Mary Lavisa Myers in Homer,Iowa. Everyone know her as Min. The first 15 years of their marriage they farmed near Stanhope. While there he conducted services with the Rev.Byron Clark. Holding revival services at the Mulberry Center in Saratoga and Webster City,Iowa. One child,Mae born October 17,1900 died on June 5, 1901.
W.D.and Mary later moved to Cleo Springs Oklahoma with there five children Edger Lee,Estey Lavern,Bessie Fern,Zefie Birdie,Erwin Truie.There he served as a minister in the United Brethren Church. While in Oklahoma W.D. and Mary had three more children Stanley Herold,Clarence and Ruby. They lived in Oklahoma for eight years,and in that time W.D. and family homesteaded 160 acers west of Fairview,Ok.that he farmed.On October 1,1908 the land was deeded over to William D.Adams,signed by President Theodore Roosevelt.In the same year W.D. sold the 160 acre homestead and moved back to Iowa.
The family retuned to Iowa. Ruby died April 21,1908 and is buried at the Saratoga Cemetery.She was only three months old.An other son was born on July 21,1916, his name was Okley J.(Mike),in Webster City, Iowa. W.D. retired from the ministry and the family moved to a farm in the Zion Community.In 1931 W.D. moved his famliy to an acreage just north of Webster City on Fox Rd..Mary died on March 19,1933 from diabetes.
W.D.Married his second wife Belle Roup-Ogden on May 22,1937.Everyone called her Grandma Belle.They were married 17 years.Until W.D. death.They ha no children together. He died at 4:30 p.m. on Friday March 19,1954 at his home on Kendall Young Park and Fox Rd. His Health had been failing since November of 1953. His funeral was held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Foster Funeral Home.Burial was at Graceland Cemetery in Webster City,Iowa.
W.D. was proceded in death by his parents Joseph and Mary Adams. His first wife Mary (Minnie or Min)and three children Mae, Ruby and Estey.
At the time of his death W.D.was servived be his wife Belle.Two daughters Fern Killinsworth of Eagle Grove,Iowa.Zephie Ruhl,Webster City,Iowa. And five sons Edger of Fresno,California.Ervin Truie,Eagle Grove,Iowa.Stanley Herold of Weiser,Idaho.Clarence of Armstrong,Iowa.Also 44grandchildren,61 great grandchildren,and 4 great-great grandchildren.(since W.D.'s death more grand,great grand,and great-great grandchildren have been born).
