John Goodrich, presumed the eldest s. of John Goodrich & his wife Margery How {q.v. Howes}, was b. probably near the year 1616 likely at or near Bury St. Edmunds in Suffolk, England. Unlike his younger siblings who have recorded baptisms, no baptism record has been found for John, Jr. He wrote his will on June 9, 1672 and d. at Wethersfield, Conn. prior to Apr. 6, 1680 when his estate inventory was made.

John Goodrich, Jr. m. (1) by 1645 an Elizabeth, whose family identity and origins are unknown. She was not, as otherwise claimed, the dau. of Thomas Edwards of Wethersfield, Conn. (See her memorial for further explanation.) Elizabeth died of record at Wethersfield in childbed on July 5, 1670. By this marriage were born seven children at Wethersfield.

John Goodrich, Jr. m. (2) on or about Apr. 4, 1674 (date of marriage contract), the widow Mary Stoddard of Wethersfield, dau. of Nathaniel Foote and Elizabeth Deming, and widow of John Stoddard of Wethersfield. There were no children of this marriage.

In at least the first five generations, all Goodrich surnamed descendants of John Goodrich, Jr. and wife Elizabeth are through third born son Jonathan and his wife Abigail Crafts.

N.B.
At the request of descendants of John Goodrich, the claim of a 1680 surviving gravestone for John Goodrich at this cemetery accompanied by a fake gravestone photo has been removed. John has no gravestone at this cemetery and may never have had one to begin with. If he did have one it had long perished prior to 1899.

At the time of John's death the Wethersfield Village Cemetery was the only cemetery at Wethersfield. If he had a gravestone by 1899 it no longer existed.
