He was born in Mt. Erie, the son of William F. & Mary Blakley Petty.
He married Alta Huston in 1934.
He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Leone Totten, of Mt. Erie, and numerous other relatives.

Harl Petty, 68, well known resident of Olney, passed away last night at the Richland Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. The family residence is at 405 W. St. John Street.
Mr. Petty was a native of Wayne County and was born at Mt. Erie the son of William F. Petty and Mary Blakley Petty. He was married to Alta Huston on November 5, 1934. He operated a cafe in Olney for several years.
Surviving are his wife, Alta, and the following children: Harl Petty Jr. of Cheyenne, Wyo., William D. Petty of Claremont, Clinton Petty of Great Bend, Kansas, Mrs. Patricia Ann Jackson and Gerald Petty, both of Pleasantville, N. Y., Alta Lou Petty, at home and Mrs. Harla Sue Lenear of Olney Rt. 3. There are 11 grandchildren. Also surviving are the following sisters: Mrs. Jennie Bentz of Olney, Mrs. Leone Totten of Mt. Erie, Mrs. Lillian McCleary of Akron, Ohio and Mrs. Sarah L. Best of Granite City.
He has been preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters: Mrs. Nellie Taylor, Mrs. Ina Newton, Mary Petty, Raul Petty, Adlai Petty and Grover Petty.
Funeral arrangements are being completed at the Summers-Rainey Funeral Home.
