Mr. McDowell was born Sept. 23, 1907 in Wayne County, the son of Charles R. and Arilla (Walker) McDowell. He married Leona Varner on Sept. 27, 1927 and she survives.
Mr. McDowell was an oil operator since 1937. He worked in Illinois, Ohio, West Virginia, Alabama, and Mississippi before retiring to poor health in 1988. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Noble. He was also a member of Petroleum Club of Olney, charter member of Noble Lions Club, Olney Lodge #926 B.P.O. Elks, and 50 year member of Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Leona; one son, Jerry McDowell of Olney; one daughter, Norma J. Shearer of Littleton, Co.; six grandsons; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Hazel Lorraine Baker; and four brothers.
