John C. Owen of Decatur died suddenly in Topeka,Kan.some time Monday. Word to this effect was received in this city Tuesday by his son, C.L.Owen, 453 S. Webster street. No particulars of the death of Mr. Owen were given. He left Decatur only a week ago to go to Topeka and at that time was in the best of health. His relatives feel that he met with some accident which resulted in his death. The body is now on the way to Decatur and will arrive here this morning at 11 o'clock.


Mr.Owen was 65 years of age and was well known. He was for a number of years truant officer for the board of education and previous to that was on the police force.

ves four sons and three daughters, besides a number of grandchildren. The sons and daughters are W.S.Owen of Jerome, Ariz. now in Decatur, C.L. Owen, J. B. Owen and W. A. Owen, all of Decatur, Mrs. Clara Willison, Mrs.Alice B. Shaw and Mrs.Myrtle Tomlinson all of whom reside in Indian Territory time to get to Decatur. On its arrival here the body will be taken to the home of C.L.Owen


A message to the Herald early this morning from Topeka, Kan.gave the details of the death of John Owen. The message stated that Mr.Owen dropped dead on the street in front of the Columbian building on W. Sixth street, presumably from heart failure. rom the car at Sixth street and Kansas Ave. and had started for home when he fell dead.

Tippins said that early in the afternoon Mr.Owen had a pocket book containing $15 or $20. He had no pocket book and only five cents in money searched by the coroner.No evidence of foul play was found.
