Mrs. Patrick Connell, and old resident of this city, died at her home in Nashua on Tuesday, October 14th. The funeral took place from St. Mary's Catholic church in Waverly, on Thursday, October 16, 1890

Connell, Catherine - At her home near Nashua, October 14, 1890, Mrs. Catharine Connell, widow of the late Patrick Connell, born in parish of Ballenwood, Ireland in 1825. She came to America in 1850, and resided some years in Pennsylvania. In 1857 Catherine came with her husband, Patrick O'Connell and sister Alice (Regan), Mrs. James Hayes to Nashua, where she resided until her death. Catherine and Alice's mother Johanna Regan came to Waverly from Pennsylvania probably at the same time.

The 1860 US census shows Patrick O'Connell and wife Catherine living in Washington Township, Bremer County, Waverly Post Office, Iowa with children Hanora (14), Johanna (12), Bridget (6), Morris (4) and Alice (2).

The 1870 US census shows Patrick O'Connell (60) and wife Catherine (50) living in Chickasaw County, Nashua Post Office with children Bridget (15), Morris (14) and Alice (11) and next to their eldest daughter, Hanora (23), living with her husband Philip Bowen (30) and their children Mary and Catherine.

The 1880 US census shows Patsy O'Connell (70) and wife Catherine (58) with children Morris (22) and Alice (20) living in Bradford Township, Chickasaw County, Iowa. The 1885 Iowa census shows Patrick (74) and Catherine (60) in Bradford, Iowa.

She leaves one son Maurice (Morris) O'Connell of Sioux City and three daughters, Bridget, Mrs. Patrick Sullivan of Sioux City, Johanna, Mrs. John Guiney of Tripoli and Nora, Mrs. William Bowen of Oto, Iowa. A daughter, Alice O'Connell died September 16, 1884. Mrs. Connell was a lady of deep piety and her kindly and cheerful disposition gained many firm and lasting friends. Although not rich in worldly goods, she presided for many years over one of the happiest homes in Iowa. The funeral services were conducted at St. Mary's Catholic church, in this city, last Thursday and were attended by a large concourse of sorrowing friends. She was laid to rest by the side of her husband who preceded her, but a few years to the grave.
