OMAHA -- Leo Valgene "Val" Foster, 79, died Friday (Feb. 19, 2010) at Methodist Hospital in Omaha.
He was born June 3, 1931, in Benkelman to Leo Chesney and VaLeita Alberta (Fallert) Foster. He graduated from high school in Max.
He married Edith Maxine Stover in October of 1950. He was a Co-Op manager and agricultural consultant and lived in many Nebraska towns including Benkelman, Wauneta, Rising City, Grand Island, Lincoln, and Columbus. He also worked and lived in Ghana, West Africa and Swaziland, South Africa educating the countries in becoming more efficient in producing their own food supplies. He later consulted with the USDA in Washington D.C. to create budgeting templates. When the Soviet Union dissolved he consulted in Armenia to help the country transition their agricultural economy from communism to free enterprise. After retiring in Omaha he married Ila (Humphreys) Mossburgh in January of 1998. Prior to his death he resided at the Masonic Home in Plattsmouth.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine; his parents; three daughters, Karen LeAnn Hoffman, Valerie Jean, and Lillian DeLora; step-mother, Irene (Mosier) Foster; one step-sister, Linda and her husband, Dick Reed; one step-daughter, Nancy Lea Mossburgh; and one step-grandson, Jackson Mossburgh.
Survivors include his wife, Ila of Omaha; three daughters, Roni and husband, Marty Vapenik of Lexington, Wilma O'Neil of Fort Collins, Colo., Lois and husband, Glen Clatterbuck of Omaha; one step-son, Will and wife, Cassi Mossburgh of Omaha; two brothers, Kenneth and wife, Marlene Foster of McCook, and Keith and wife, Liz of Orlando, Fla.; two sisters, Joan Schwartz of North Platte and Luan and husband, Ramon Jesch of Boulder, Colo.; step-sister Diane and husband, Frank Casey of Montrose, Colo.; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Memorial services are Friday, 10 a.m. (MST), at the United Methodist Church in Benkelman. Interment to follow at Benkelman Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial funds be made to Nancy Mossburgh Memorial Scholarship, The Masonic Home, 1300 Avenue D, Plattsmouth, NE 68048, the Benkelman Cemetery, Benkelman, NE 69021, or a charity of your choice.
