MRS. W. P. TAYLOR
Nellie Erb, daughter of Austin and Martha Erb, was born March 21, 1873 at Smyrna, Iowa. She grew to young womanhood in the Weldon and Derby communities.
Nellie Erb and George Vice were married in 1891. To this union two children were born, Opal, now Mrs. Otto Welch of Wichita, Kansas, and Maple, who was born Dec. 17, 1893 and died at the age of 16.
After the death of her husband in 1894, Mrs. Vice lived in Derby where the children were educated.
In September, 1913, Mrs. Vice was married to W. P. Taylor and they lived on his farm southeast of Derby until the death of Mr. Taylor in 1941. Mrs. Taylor was very happy in her motherly relationship to the children of her new home.
Mrs. Taylor, since her husband's death, has lived in her Derby home, spending the winters with her daughter in Wichita, and the past two years has made her home there. For a year she has been in failing health and passed away Monday morning, March 26, 1956.
After taking up permanent residence in Wichita, Mrs. Taylor had her church membership transferred from Last Chance Christian church to Hillside Christian church in Wichita.
Near relatives surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Opal Welch, one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Wallace of Weldon; two brothers, W. O. Erb of Des Moines and H. B. Erb of Humeston.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, 1956 at the Derby Methodist church, Rev. Martin Keast officiating. Burial was at the Last Chance cemetery.
