Major league baseball player 1935, 1939-1942, 1946-49.
Pitcher for the Chicago Cubs, Brooklyn Dodgers, Pittsburgh Pirates and the New York Yankees.
He led the National League in saves in 1942 and 1947.
He pitched well in the 1947 World Series for the Brooklyn Dodgers, going 2-0 with a save against the New York Yankees. He also pitched for the Dodgers against the Yankees in the 1941 World Series.

US Navy veteran - WW II

Towards the end of his life, he ran a restaurant in Brooklyn.

He died from a self-inflicted gunshot blast to his neck while his estranged wife was pleading with him on the phone. Casey was upset that he had recently been named as the father of a child by another woman in a paternity suit.

He was inducted into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in 1991.
