Elizabeth went home to be with the Lord Feb. 1, 2010, while in the care of Hospice of East Texas. She was born Feb. 27, 1920, in LaRue to the late Eugene Lofton Sr. and Alice Butler Harris.
During World War II, she was employed by General Dynamics Corp., Fort Worth, manufacturing aircraft for the war effort, and Camp Fannin in Tyler. Elizabeth retired from General Electric Corp., Tyler, in 1982. A longtime member of First Baptist Church Troup, she moved to Tyler for health reasons and became a member of Antioch Baptist Church, Sand Flat community.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Tom Rye Nichols; second husband, Williford L. Ray; granddaughter, Debra Kay Young; great-grandson, Steven Ray Tanner; sisters, Georgia Clemontine Patterson, Lela Bernice Ray, Sarah Leone Foster and Mary Alice Adams.
Survivors include daughter, Helen Elizabeth Nichols Young and husband Ted; son, Harlan W. Ray and wife Sharon, all of Tyler; brothers, Eugene Harris Jr., Thomas Harris, L.E. (Jack) Harris, Arlin Harris and Charles H. Harris; sisters, Zane Langley and Martha Spears, all of Bullard, and Nellie Hathaway of New Boston; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers include nephews, David Adams, Tony Foster, Brian Harris, Danny Harris, Mike Harris, Charles Ray, Eric Spears and Randy Spears. Honorary pallbearers will be all remaining nephews.
Visitation will begin Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010, at the Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
