He was born September 26, 1951 in Burbank, California. He graduated from North Hollywood High School in 1969, serving as Senior Class President and earning All City Football honors. He earned his BA from Weber State University and went on to coach football at the university.
Dan later moved into athletic administration and earned his Masters from the University of Texas-El Paso. His career in athletics took him to Utah, Wyoming and Texas. He served as an assistant and associate athletic director at UTEP and Wyoming. His hard work and dedication paid off when he became the first athletic director at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in 1997.
He was known as someone who worked hard at his job, but was not so involved that he could not make time for his family. Dan was known widely for his love of golf, and he also was an avid cyclist.
Dan was diagnosed with Pick's Disease, a rare neurodegenerative disease also known as Frontotemporal Dementia, in 2007.
Dan was preceded in death by his father Al (2007) and his mother Glenna (2008).
Survivors include his brother Jeff, sister-in-law Robin, and niece Natalie.
Funeral Services will be held at Forest Lawn-Hollywood Hills in Los Angeles at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, February 26, 2010
