G. Cliff Goodband - Age 62, of Needham, Director of Upper School, Belmont Hill School, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on February 19th after a courageous battle with cancer.
Loving husband of Ruth (Hufnagle) for 38 years. Devoted father of Kristen Fiumara and her husband Joseph of Foxboro, Cliff Goodband and his wife Betsy of West Roxbury and Ryan Goodband and his wife Alli of Walpole. Proud Papa of Peter and Nicholas Fiumara and Cate and Connor Goodband. Brother of Lana and her husband Dave Lewis of Waltham, Greg and his wife, Robin Goodband of West Wareham, and Gary and his wife Jane Goodband of Princeton, MA.
Mr. Goodband was a member of the Belmont Hill faculty for 39 years. He was appointed in 1971 as a teacher of science and coach of soccer and baseball. Within a decade he had moved to significant leadership within the school. He served as director of the Upper School from 1980 until 2007. Generations of students remember well his dedicated and effective work. Acknowledging his outstanding leadership in the school, Mr. Goodband also served as Interim Head of Schools on 2 occasions. Honoring his work and his general leadership of the school, he was named Assistant Head of School as well as Director of Upper School in 1989 and he held both titles until 2007. Ever a leader of the faculty, his role then shifted and he served his last years as chair of the Science department as well as counsel to many colleagues, young and old.
Funeral from the George F. Doherty and Sons Funeral Home, 1305 Highland Ave., NEEDHAM, Tuesday at 8 AM. Funeral Mass in St. Joseph's Church, 1350 Highland Ave., Needham, at 9 AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours Monday 3-8 PM.
