Mrs. Nancy Ann Rankin Succumbs in Hospital
Mrs. Nancy Ann Rankin, 80, 1077 North Broad street, the mother of Ralph E. Rankin, 1428 North Prairie street, died at 8 o'clock Tuesday night in St. Mary's hospital, where she had been a patient the past eight weeks. Mrs. Rankin had been in failing health the past two years and death was due to a heart ailment. During her long illness at the hospital, she had the almost constant companionship of her son and daughter-in-law. Mrs. Rankin had resided in Galesburg the past 22 years.
Nancy Ann Champion Pitman, daughter of Gideon and Mary Jane Pitman, who were among the first settlers in Henderson township, was born Jan. 29, 1860, in Henderson township. She was educated there, and on Dec. 3, 1889, was married to Samuel Rankin of the same township. He died in 1926. To this union was born one son, Ralph E. Rankin.
Mrs. Rankin was a member of the Methodist church of Henderson and attended the First Christian church here. She was a member of the Loyal Women's class.
Surviving are the son, Ralph E. Rankin, and his wife; a sister, Mrs. E. G. McMurtry, 944 North Cedar street; a brother, Edgar G. Pitman of Denver Colo., and a number of nieces and nephews. One brother, Albert Pitman of North Henderson, died three months ago.
Funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock Thursday afternoon from the Kimber and West chapel, in charge of Dr. S. A. Guthrie of the First Methodist Church. At Mrs. Rankin's request, burial will be in Memorial Park.
