Margaret F. D. Edmonds
Weems - Margaret (Margery) Fitzgerald Dameron Edmonds, born on September 16, 1909, in Weems, died December 11, 1999.
She was the first child of Margaret Bolling Jones and James Oscar Damron. Much of early education was undertaken by teachers in her home. She was a graduate of Stonewall Jackson Women's School in Abingdon and later graduated from the College of William and Mary in 1932.
She taught school in Wytheville and also in Hanover County. When she returned Weems, she worked in her father's general store and steamboat wharf as well as in the post office, housed in the store. In 1947, she married Henry Jeter Edmonds III, D.D.S., and lived in Kilmarnock.
Mrs. Edmonds was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Order of the Eastern Star, among other community organizations.
Her parents were charter members of Campbell Memorial Presbyterian Church where Mrs. Edmonds became an honorary life member of the Presbyterian women and was a teacher, leader, choir director and organist for over 50 years.
She survived by her son, Henry Jeter Edmonds IV, her sister Mary Meade Dameron Woodson, a niece, Marjorie Woodson Nea, and the nephew, Chip Woodson.
A funeral service was held on December 15 at Campbell Memorial Presbyterian Church in Weems. Dr. William Morris officiated. Gifts in her honor may be to Campbell Memorial Presbyterian Church for the music fund.
