Born in Statesboro, GA on July 3, 1925, she had lived in Jacksonville for many years before moving to St. Johns fourteen months ago. Mrs. Hotchkiss was a graduate on Blackshear High School where she had been on the basketball team and had also played basketball for the Savannah City League. She worked as a secretary for a number of years prior to opening her own daycare center, Lakewood Wee Care, which she ran for many years. Mrs. Hotchkiss loved to cook and enjoyed sewing. She was a member of Fruit Cove Baptist Church in Jacksonville but had also attended the Legacy Bible Study Group at Legacy of St. Johns.
She was a daughter of the late William Jasper & Carrie Rebecca Ann Sanders Hodges. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Hazel Hotchkiss; all seven of her sisters, Ester Durden, Bernice Deal, Lorene Eure, Lucille Hodges, Martha Sue Bell, Louise Plyler, and Dorothy Watkins; and all six of her brothers, Norman, Carl, Waldo, Vernon, Charles, and Quinton Hodges.
Survivors include her two daughters, Becky Hotchkiss of Savannah and Donna & Randy McGill of St. Augustine, FL; 3 grandchildren, Randy McGill, Jr., Rylee Marie McGill, and Gracie Bea McGill; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hotchkiss will be held Monday morning, September 4, 2017, at 11:00 o’clock from the Pearson-Dial Chapel.
Interment will be in the Blackshear Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
