ISRAEL NIMS
was born February 4, 1751 at Deerfield, [Franklin county] MA and died September 20, 1829 at Phelps, NY. He was the son of Jeremiah Nims and Mary Cooley. Israel first married on December 10, 1773 to Ruth Childs at Deerfield, MA. Ruth Childs was born August 12, 1754 at Deerfield, MA and died February 16, 1787. She was the Daughter of David Childs and Rebecca Arms. Israel married second on May 6, 1788 to Bethia Banks. Bethia Banks died September 18, 1847.

Israel Nims served as a Private in the Revolutionary War. He enlisted in Capt. Jonas Lock's company of Minutemen that marched on the alarm at Lexington and Concord. He remained in service for a month. Israel reenlisted in July 1777 and served two months as part of Capt. Amasa Sheldon's company. He also was one of 31 men who voted against a petition to seek peace with Great Britain in 1781.

Israel Nims died in New York while on a visit to his children there. Upon his death, Israel Nims left one half of his land, his household furniture, one cow and six sheep to his wife, Bethia. He left twenty acres of land to his son, Barnard; $30 to Rebecca Parsons, his daughter; $1 each to Israel, Harry and Seth, his sons, and the rest of the estate to his son, Justus.
