Jeremiah was the son of Henry Beckstead and his wife, Elizabeth Saddlemire. He married Eleanor Riddickon December 17, 1856 at Williamsburg, Dundas, Ontario Canada and together they had six children: Mary (b. ABT 1859), Sarah (b. May 1859), Anne Uretta (b. Jun 7, 1861), Peter Herschel (b. Sep 16, 1865), William Franklin (b. Aug 26, 1868), and George Allen (b. Mar 2, 1872). Eleanor died on May 12, 1872 and he married a second time to Nancy Elizabeth Kittle on June 30, 1873 in Williamsburg, Dundas, Ontario. Together they had four children, Ella May (b. May 28, 1874), Henry Chauncy (b. Mar 6, 1877), Mary Luella (b. Feb 29, 1880) and Oscar Mason (b. Aug 8, 1882).
