Pioneer of Waxahachie and son of Judge J.W. and Martha J. Crow Ferris (he born NY and she born KY). The town of Ferris was named for the Judge, who served as District Judge of Ellis County before the Civil War.

He was long connected with the Citizens National Bank of Waxahachie, his father being one of its organizers, and a long-time active social and business figure in the community.

Burial was in the Waxahachie City Cemetery, where a brief service was held.
